Stroke Screenings

Eighty percent of stoke victims had no apparent warning signs.  Friendship Village, with Life Line Screenings will host a series of health screenings.  These screenings are painless, affordable and convenient.  Pre-registration is necessary.

The Palatine Children’s Chorus – Concert Choir

The concert choir of the Palatine Children’s Chorus will perform a wide variety of music from classical pieces in Latin to spiritual and popular selections like Chattanooga Choo Choo and Somewhere Over the Rainbow.

Friendship Village Artists Featured in Local Benefit

The first annual Art Sale to benefit “Serving Our Seniors” (SOS).  Fifteen older adult artists will display their work for sale at the event including Friendship Village residents, Geraldine Wuester, Angie Sobczyk and Betty Kocian.  SOS is a collaborative committee with Cook County and several Schaumburg agencies and the Schaumburg Police Department, each working to enhance the life for seniors in the area.  The goal of SOS is to better communicate between the agencies so each organization is providing optimum services for older adults.

Crazy About Cakes

If you are crazy about cakes, don’t miss this program!  Special occasions often include celebration cakes.  Audience members will learn the history of special cakes including red velvet, carrot cake, brand name favorites and different styles of wedding cakes.  Famous cakes will also be featured.  Audience members will sample cupcakes and mini cakes and leave with a packet of recipes.  Join Amy Alessio for this informative and tasty program. History of Silent Films

Silent film makers produced masterpieces and crowd thrilling entertainment.  Remarkable for their artistry, silent films show us how our ancestors thought, spoke, dressed and lived.  It is through these films that the world first came to love movies and learned how to appreciate them as art. This presentation will present a brief history of silent films and then discuss one of the era’s most popular stars, Harold Lloyd.  We will view several of his short films and for the grand finale, watch the most exciting part of his silent film, Safety Last! It is terrifying yet hilarious and will keep you on the edge of your seats.

Hockey Night – Professional In-line Hockey Presentation

It’s hockey season and time for some fun! Hospitality associate Mary Jo McHugh’s three sons — Jeff, Steven and Michael will introduce you to the game of in-line hockey. A presentation about the game of hockey and equipment used will be followed by a demonstration…yes, anyone interested will be able to participate in a shoot-out.  You will be shown how to hold a hockey stick and how to pass a hockey ball rather than a puck.  Next, you will have a chance to score a point on the goalie.  Score a point — win a prize!

Take this 8 hour driver safety class room course especially designed for drivers age 50 and older.  Completing this course qualifies you for a discount on your auto insurance (consult your agent).  You must attend both days to complete the course.  Reservations are required.

Non-member fee: $14.00

Normal Aging

The Northwestern Metropolitan Region Continuity of Care will be holding its April meeting at Friendship Village of Schaumburg.  Dr. Roger Weise will help us all understand the dynamics of normal aging.  Dr. Weise is a fellowship trained geriatrician and is board certified in geriatrics and internal medicine.

Continuity of Care is comprised of dedicated professional interdisciplinary teams working together to advocate and ensure quality levels of care in the transition of the patient/client from one level to the next.
